Police Chief Daniel Meyers said that around 3 p.m., two homeless men started a bonfire in a field near Douglas and Montgomery Roads. The men began to throw nail gun chargers into the fire, which caused the chargers to eventually explode, Meyers said. Both men were struck during the explosions, and waited at least three hours before walking to the Family Dollar, on the 1300 block of Douglas Road, to call 911 for help. One man was taken to an area hospital after being injured in the chest. The other man was less severely injured when his hand was grazed during the incident. News breaks at inconvenient times.
